HealthGigJobs : Take Control and Make Money on Your Terms

Have you ever considered working as an independent contractor as a PA for your own business but didn’t want the hassle of it or didn’t even know where to start? Me too, to be honest, so, I am SO EXCITED to tell you about HealthGigJobs! Physician Assistants/Associates (PAs) who are looking to earn extra money on the side now have an opportunity to work with the flexibility of choosing our own schedules and our compensation WITHOUT all the hassle.

Wait, what?

Imagine this: It’s a weekday morning and you’d like to work a few hours today- sign in to your HealthGigJobs marketplace account, and find out that a local clinic or telehealth business is looking for a PA that matches your verified profile. You decide how much you want to be paid by posting the amount (via the bidding function) or you can accept what the business proposed. If you don’t agree on the proposed amount you counterbid the business’ proposed amount with what you feel you deserve.  Once the bid/counterbids are accepted you go to work and get paid 100% of your agreed amount. There’s no locums agency or recruiter to deal with and have to split your income.

THIS is going to be the next big thing in the healthcare workforce. It’s the brainchild of a PA friend of mine and I’m SO excited to collaborate with his company, HealthGigJobs, to help EMPOWER PAs. It took me a bit to understand the concept.. so let me share!

HealthGigJobs and EmpoweredPAs empowering healthcare professionals
Rick and I at the FAPA Conference back in 2019!

So, What IS HealthGigJobs?

I first learned of this from co-founder Rick Yarosh, a PA who I met a few years ago at a FAPA (Florida Academy of PAs) conference. His company, HealthGigJobs, had a tagline of “Empowering healthcare professionals” which totally caught my eye. I admit, I was super confused by the original idea, I now think it’s pretty incredible. He said ” My initial focus was to empower PAs and NPs professionals who wish to have better control on their income and work/life balance”.

Think of it as the Uber of healthcare employment where YOU name your own price. The “Gig Economy” concept clearly works, and now healthcare providers have the option of working on their own terms while leveraging their skills and experience- it’s incredibly empowering

I applaud Rick for taking this concept and moving it forward. I also recently learned he completed the very first SPACE MEDICINE CLINICAL ROTATION at Kennedy Space Center as a PA Student (WHAT?!).

More on that amazingness another day…

Think of it as the Uber of healthcare employment where YOU name your own price. The “Gig Economy” concept clearly works, and now healthcare providers have the option of working on their own terms while leveraging their skills and experience- it’s incredibly empowering. The healthcare business also benefits from the HealthGigJobs marketplace- life happens…people call out sick, take leave of absence or there is more work than one person can handle. It’s really a great solution to an age-old problem.

Is HealthGigJobs Just for PAs?

No! HealthGigJobs was designed for everyone in the health care industry. From Nurses (RN/LPN/ARNP), Medical Assistants, Home Health Aids, and Certified Nursing Assistants to Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, technicians, and even medical billers and coders.. basically anyone can sign up, get verified and be matched by a verified clinic or business who has an active profile on the marketplace. IMAGINE how this could address the staffing issues we are ALL facing? Nurses and healthcare workers have left in droves for travel contracts or their own side hustles, what if you could offer your team a better solution that was cost-effective AND mutually beneficial?

It’s free for healthcare professionals to sign up and be verified, so it costs you NOTHING to just look around and browse, even if you don’t ever get matched or accept a gig. If your clinic is looking for workers (no hospitals at the moment) healthcare businesses can sign up too!

How it works

  1. Healthcare professionals fill out a profile for free with details such as specialty, license, location, and level of experience. Once HealthGigJobs verifies the credentials, the professional is onboarded with the platform.
  1. Healthcare businesses go through a similar process and will post a relevant job which can be hourly or per task, per patient, or per specific volume of work. An example is a clinic looking for a PA to cover a morning shift OR it could be a home visit company to round on 5 patients OR a telehealth business that needs you to screen 10 patients for co-morbidities.
  2. Healthcare professionals who have been matched by the marketplace to a specific gig have an opportunity to negotiate compensation through a proprietary bid/counterbid system.
  3. Healthcare professionals are paid 100% of the agreed to negotiated pay.

Empowered Healthcare Professionals

This is a brand new idea but I promise you, it WILL take off in a very big way. This platform is the ultimate Empowerment tool for PAs and really all of healthcare. You all KNOW I’ve been shouting from the rooftops that PAs can do SO MUCH MORE. The “machine” of medicine often has us feeling stuck or burned out. This platform has the potential to give healthcare professionals back our power, allowing us to show up for our patients in a way that allows us to thrive.

Personally, I would LOVE to see PAs inundate this platform! But also- for the sake of medicine, I would LOVE to see HealthGigJobs be a solution to burnout for anyone working in medicine, or, at the very least, allow us to have some control over their own lives. It’s been a rough few years.

HealthGigJobs continues to add professionals and businesses to the marketplace. They recently announced they are working with Uber Health to integrate vouchers for rides to and from a gig job location, so I can only imagine exponential growth in the coming months.

Right now, healthcare professionals register FOR FREE. There are no commitments, and it doesn’t cost anything to sign up. Healthcare businesses also register for free and will pay a small fee of $35 when a matched healthcare professional completes a gig. There is also a 7.5% overage fee for any gig over $250.00.

If you create a professional profile and use our code “EMPOWERED” we do get a small commission whenever you complete a gig- there is no cost to you and it helps us share these opportunities! If your practice is looking to create a business profile, you can still use our code.

I want to put together a Q&A with Rick to answer your questions, what questions do YOU have?
